The office of Sheriff is authorized and established by
the Constitution of the State of Tennessee. The Sheriff is a constitutional officer that
is elected by regular elections every four years. The sheriff is charged by law to service
the courts within the jurisdiction of the county and all courts of record of this state.
He/She is charged with the custody and control of inmates placed in the Detention Facility
until discharged by law. He/She is the conservator of the peace by which the Sheriff is to
keep the peace, prevent crime, arrest any person lawfully, or to execute process of the
law, civil or state.
